2003 Alleycat, NYC, 4th of July

The annual 4th of July Alleycat Race. This time, Old Skool Track was in the house. The race started on 12th Ave and 24th St. out by Chelsea Piers. After 7 checkpoints it ended at Columbus Park in Chinatown. Now normally, Columbus Park is populated by the elderly residents of Chinatown. In the mornings they do tai chi and calisthenics in the park; in the afternoons they cool out with cards, mahjong, and gossip. Imagine their amazement as a horde of enthusiastic cyclists came to share the park with them! And with lots of loud music too.

It was a fun race and a great way to spend the 4th. More pics available soon on http://www.nycmassive.com, one of NYC's messenger sites.

Kevins big-ass 3/16 KMC chain

Kevin's big-ass 3/16" KMC chain. A while ago, he had snapped a chain riding. "Never again!!"

Pumpin' Music-man

Pumpin' Music-Man. The pic doesn't show his recumbent trike, but he's got a super sound system hooked up on it, with omnidirectional speakers. I guess powered by a few car batteries. He goes to the Critical Mass and Bike Summer events here in NYC. Great mix of music, and wherever he is, that's where the party is!
