Vince's Old-Skool Frejus

Frejus Pix!!

Editor's Note:

Back in the NYC of the 70's, Frejus was the track bike of choice, both for the track and the street. Nowadays for many old-skoolers, Frejus is the old-skool track bike. It symbolizes everything the track bike is about, as well as providing a dose of personal nostalgia.

This bike of Vince's is no garage-queen. He *rides* this shit. In fact, I haven't seen him on anything else since he got it about a month ago. It's not like he has no other tracks. A 25-year wait is a long time!

FREJUS, a true oldskool trackframe. When I was growing up I used to go to Tommy's and look at the racing bikes and drool and dream. Back then you could get an all Campy record equipped Frejus for about $600 or $700 this was the 70s. He had Frejus, Legnano, Follis (french) and I remember seeing a Dawes (English) in there too.

Anyways I ended up getting my hands on a Frejus Road frame in 1978 and that was when I thought I was the fastest guy on earth. Maybe two years later I got my hands on a Legnano track frame because I was riding track by then, not to fluently I might add but it was the beginning of a life long love for the craft. Legnano was the closest that I ever came to a Frejus track, they are almost identical, tight, light, and historical items. In essence I've been chasing that bike for almost 25yrs. and now I finally caught one (Yay). I'm not a rich or even well to do man, but when it came to that bike it was'nt the money factor that kept it out of reach it was the rarity factor that made it so elusive.

Those that have them keep them hanging on the wall over the fireplace or coveted in their collections or even rusting in the barn. Wherever they may be.....No One Is Willing To Part With It, thats just the way it is. I must say that at least Fast Eddy the messenger/ Author/ fixture of the bike community, at least he has one and he actually rides it. I dig that guy he's got crust.

Anyhow even though the Jewel is in my grubby little mitts heh heh heh, acquiring it was quite the team effort so I do owe Greg and Peter and the Bicycle station props and a big shout-out for making this possible. As I told Peter(no meat,no brakes, no sense) yeah that Peter, as I told him he made things happen quickly by effective networking. And Greg picked it up since I could'nt make it there fast enough to save it from the DISPLAY WINDOW (whew). To everyone out there I just wanna say that we all know the feeling of getting something we've wanted for a loooooooong time, this time it just so happens it's a Track Bike.
